IGS launched the summary of its annual report The State of Governance in Bangladesh (SoG) 2009 on 6 October, 2010 at 11.00 am at the JATRI Conference Room, Dhaka.

The former chief advisor of the Caretaker Government Justice Muhammad Habibur Rahman was present as the Chief Guest at the launching ceremony. Pro-Vice Chancellor, BRAC University Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir chaired the programme.
SoG Report is the only governance report published on Bangladesh from Bangladesh. This Report is the flagship publication of the Institute of Governance Studies (IGS), BRAC University and its objective is to develop research resources and to widen the knowledge base on governance issues in Bangladesh. The SoG 2009 is the fourth report which analyses the state of governance in four key sectors of Bangladesh. The 2009 Report focuses on Energy, Food Security, e-Government and Labour Migration.


The ceremony was divided into three sessions i.e. inaugural, presentation of key findings and question answer session. In the inaugural session, Barrister Manzoor Hasan, Director, IGS opened the event with a welcome address and introduced the Chief Guest, Chair and the research team. In his speech, the Pro-VC presented an overview of IGS as an institute of BRAC University and explained its areas of activities. Ms. Irum Shehreen Ali, Editor, SoG 2009 and Ms. Christina Rozario, Head of Programme of IGS presented the key findings of SOG research. The presentations were followed by the key note address of the Chief Guest.This was followed by a question-answer session.


The launching event provided a platform to share and disseminate key findings of the SoG research with the press. Most of the leading print and electronic media covered the event as one of the top news on the day. Some electronic media also arranged discussions on the report with members of the civil society and highlighted the major findings and possible impact on country’s governance and future policy initiatives.
